High Street North is a private residential development delivering six new apartments through a two-storey extension constructed on top of an existing building. The project sits within a dense East London urban setting, where refurbishment and vertical expansion offered a practical route to increasing residential capacity.
The scheme was architect-led and required careful coordination to integrate new structure above an existing occupied form while maintaining build-ability within a constrained site environment.
Project Context & Delivery
A defining challenge of the project was delivering a two-storey rooftop extension with no access for craneage. This required a lightweight, manually installable structural solution capable of being handled and assembled at second-floor level.
Openwall® panels were supplied in 1.2-metre widths and used in combination with loose metal web joists, forming a coordinated lightweight system well suited to vertical extensions. This approach supported efficient installation at height while achieving a demanding external wall U-value of 0.15 W/m²K within a controlled overall wall depth, demonstrating the system’s flexibility in complex urban refurbishment scenarios.
